Duolingo & Memrise | Have Fun!

Hi everyone!

I know that vocabulary learning is a big thing most of the people because with traditional techniques it’s so boring. However, technology brings its benefits with itself and gives us different opportunities to learn languages. Today, want to talk about two different application I found very useful.

Firstly, I’m gonna talk about Duolingo. It’s an application within which you can find different languages to learn. If you ask why Duolingo, I would say that it’s not boring and old school. Today, we don’t like anything that brings the need of vomiting, also anything that is boring won’t help you to learn something because your motivation will be much lower each day. In a nutshell, please try it and inform me on your thoughts.

Secondly, Memrise would be a good choice to work on. Memrise simply the same thing with Duolingo but there is one thing that made my mind blown. That thing is the camera detection system of Memrise. You can hold your phone to any object and it shows you it’s name and meaning. Of course, sometimes, it makes wrong assumptions but we cannot deny its usefulness. Please give it a try!

LAST WEEK OF THE TRAINING | 21st Century Skills Training

Oh! What two weeks it has been! You couldn't believe what happened in the previous weeks even if I told you but I AM BACK. I missed you so much. Those days a bit lonely as we are always at home however I have a good opportunty to make my loneliness more bearable. Yes, I'm talking about 21st Century Skills Teacher Training. Two week ago, we had our last training meeting and it was very informative and fun. If your are interested, keep reading! We have discussed about an article, Teaching Material in EIL by Matsuda, in the first session.  This article focuses on important parts of materials and textbooks. We have made a group and whole class discussion on this topic by sharing our reflections on the article. We found out that materials should include diverse representation of different things such as cultures, ideologies, accents, visuals, etc. Also, the article point out to the evaluation of materials by giving different criteria. For example, we should think about the variety...

You've got a second chance! or Should I Say SECOND LIFE

Hi everyone! If I say that you could be whatever you want, would you believe me? Probably not. Let me explain a little bit. Last week, our instructor told us about Second Life which is a new world (or I can say life) online. In Second Life, we have a new world and a new us. We can create an avatar with the appearance we want. In short, we can be whomever we want to be and do whatever we want to do. This app also used as an educational tool. One example of it is my instructor Tuncer Can's project which brought about a lot of attention. If you want to learn more about his work, you can check it online. As an example, I created myself and became a vampire. Here is my selfie as a vampire in SecondLife. I think you should try it, too. If you want to, you can click here in order to reach SecondLife.

A Bunch of Tools | 21st Century Skills Training

Hey friends!  How are you? How was your week? I hope you did fine and ready to learn more about 21 st  Century Skills. This week’s training was all about tools that we can use in our teaching process and work life. I’ve found some of them really interesting and helpful, and I will share them with you further in this post. Embed from Getty Images     At the beginning of the session, our teacher Melda Yılmaz presented us with 6 different tools and showed how to use them properly. The first tool was Edpuzzle, which is a website that allows you to add questions and notes to a video and make it interactive. I think that this tool is very useful in teaching, especially with asynchronous learning. Also, this website gives you a chance to mark your students’ work. What we all wish for!     The second tool we’ve talked about was Animoto. Animoto is an online tool that helps you to create different and interesting videos without putting too much effort i...
